I am always happy to hear from students and postdoctoral researchers who are interested in joining the group. If you are interested in potential opportunities, please feel free to reach out to me at slyster@udel.edu. To help me learn more about your background and interests, please include a CV, a one-paragraph description of your previous research experience and/or relevant skills, and a one-paragraph description of your future research interests.
At this time, I'm particularly interested in hearing from prospective graduate students interested in working on the following topics:
Fluvial sedimentology and stratigraphy: Using fluvial stratigraphic deposits to understand how ancient rivers and floodplains responded to past changes in climate and vegetation. Students with a broad background in geology and prior field experience in sedimentology and stratigraphy are particularly encouraged to reach out.
Physical experiments of fluvial and deltaic landscape evolution: Using physical experiments to investigate how rivers and deltas evolve in response to changes in water discharge, sediment supply, vegetation, and sea-level rise. Prior experience with physical experiments is not required, but experience with remote sensing, GIS, and/or coding would be particularly helpful for processing and analyzing experimental data.
